Contact Lens Exams & Fitting

At New Sights Eyecare in Houston, TX, our eye doctor and care team strive to meet all your eye and vision care needs. Our optometrist provides corrective lens evaluations and prescription management. After a comprehensive eye and vision evaluation, Dr. Shanzida Alam will discuss contact lens options to select the type that best fits your vision needs and lifestyle. If you suffer from dry eye, allergies, or recurring eye infections, speak with our staff to determine whether contact lenses suit you.

Evaluation

Before prescribing contact lenses, Dr. Alam determines what level of vision correction you require. Refractive error is evaluated by measuring how the eyes focus when different lenses are placed before them. Our optometrist may use a phoropter or an automated instrument to take these measurements.

Getting fitted for contact lenses is fast and painless. We'll teach you how to place your contacts in your eyes comfortably and review the care instructions you need to keep your eyes safe.

Corrective Lenses

After determining the level of refractive error, Dr. Alam works with you to determine whether contact lenses or glasses are best for your lifestyle. If you suffer from certain conditions, such as dry eye or allergies, glasses may be the most comfortable corrective solution.

Contact lenses are available in either soft or rigid gas-permeable form. Contact lenses must be changed daily, weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly, depending on your chosen lens type. Specialized contact lenses, such as bifocal contact lenses, are also available for patients with special eye conditions.

If you need help finding the contacts we select together, please contact us to discuss your other options. Together, we'll work to find contact lenses you can wear comfortably, no matter what eye conditions you have.

Cosmetic Lenses

Advances in contact lens technology have created great options for cosmetic and prosthetic lenses. Custom contact lenses can be designed to camouflage any color variation or irregularity and produce a natural eye color. Cosmetic lenses are also available to transform your eye color. If you want to change your eye color with cosmetic lenses, we'll review your options and help you find the colored contacts that create your desired look.
