Meet the Optometrist

Dr. Shanzida Alam grew up in Roanoke, Virginia. While attending Patrick Henry High School, she developed a passion for healthcare and was involved in various after school club (ex. Science club, key club, chess club, etc.).

When she was 17, her own optometrist took a keen interest in her and encouraged her to pursue a career in optometry. A year later, she attended the prestigious University of Virginia, where she studied biochemistry and religious studies.

During her years at the University, she was involved in research for parkinson's disease. Afterwards, she went on to earn her Doctorate in Optometry from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 2003.

She completed an externship at the Charlotte Eye Ear Nose & Throat Associates in Charlotte North Carolina, where she assisted in peri-operative care of LASIK and Cataracts surgeries. She also assisted in diagnosis of glaucoma, diabetes, and various other complicated eye diseases.

In 2003, she moved to Houston Texas where she has living ever since. She fell in love with Houston and the wonderful people she met during her 15 years of Optometric practice. In 2004-2005, she worked at the Holladay Lasik Institute where she assisted with peri-operative care of LASIK. In 2006, her only child was born and she took a year off to be a mom.

The past ten years, she has been working at the Willowbrook Mall next door to JCPenny Optical in northwest houston. In April 2018, she established her private practice New Sights Eyecare in Northwest Houston. In her spare time, Dr. Alam enjoys traveling, reading, and spending time with her family.
